New England Equal Longest Victory Run Since Brady Years with Win Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five scores in the present year
New England tied their best victory streak from the Tom Brady era as they beat AFC East opponents the Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie Henderson led the way with three scores as the Patriots claimed an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since iconic QB Tom Brady's final season with the franchise in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
The win increases the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets bottom after slipping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to conclude the Jets' opening drive
But the New England responded in the second period as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard TDs before the running back caught a pass from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone midway through the third quarter to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"That was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been fantastic for him to keep gaining experience," Maye commented on Henderson. "He desires to be excellent."
Fields connected with Metchie in the latter part of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side sealed the triumph
