Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
