Reece James Voices No Fear Before Bayern Clash in UEFA's Elite Competition

The Blues' leader stated that Chelsea steps back into the European elite with complete belief in their potential to battle with the top global sides.

Young Side Meets Tough Challenge at Bayern's Home

Under Chelsea's head coach, the emerging side prepare onto the continental scene after a two-year absence. Their first test comes against the German powerhouse on Wednesday evening. But the captain isn't worried about the team’s inexperience.

He pointed to the recent worldwide title as evidence that Chelsea are genuine contenders to win the Champions League.

Learning from the Past

"We're just beginning," remarked James. "I'm fully confident in this club’s ability to compete with elite teams across the planet. It's about taking things one match at a time and assess where we stand when the season closes."

James himself has plenty of experience with this level. He recalled a painful defeat against Bayern in the past, when Bayern won 7-1 on aggregate in the last 16.

"Growth comes from defeats," added the full-back. "I faced them a few seasons back and they taught us a lesson. Matches like that make you stronger and will help for tomorrow’s game."

Changing Squad

Following Chilwell's exit to Strasbourg, he remains the sole remaining member from Chelsea’s European Cup title-winning side. "The club has seen significant turnover," he admitted. "It's not necessarily a downside. In the past campaign we qualified for this competition and claimed two pieces of silverware. The team has grown."

Surprise Loan

James also expressed surprise regarding the deal involving the striker to their upcoming opponents. The Senegal international is available against Chelsea in the match.

"I didn’t see it coming," he commented. "I think the player sought a move and the club found a solution. It's unclear the full story, but he is a terrific player."

Strategy Tips

Manager Enzo Maresca admitted that Jackson could give the opponents tips about Chelsea's approach. "It could represent a small edge because he can explain our system, our preparation," noted the Italian. "Nicolas spent the past campaign with us, meaning he knows our style."

He downplayed any suggestions of a fallout with Jackson. "There was never any issue with him, and remain on good terms," Maresca said. "He is a hard worker, committed, and always trained well with us."

Maresca also expressed hope that the attacker will be fit to play following recovery from an injury.
